Pole and P1 for Hubert in Race 1: The French opens the 2015 ALPS Season

Anthoine Hubert opens the season with the pole and Race 1 win. The Tech 1 Racing French driver marked the beginning of the 2015 season of the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS. A clear success, the one gained in Imola during the first out of the seven season’s venues. With him on podium yet another Frenchman with the other Tech 1 Racing driver Simone Gachet finishing third behind the Brit/Korean Koiranen GP driver Jack Aitken. A thrilling race the one just over where Hubert proved determined in defending his lead right from the pole with Aitken and his team-mate Jake Hughes on his tail. The latter however spun towards the end of the race and was forced to retire. Ben Barnicoat (Fortec Motorsports) managed fourth, while Stefan Riener, the fastest in Friday’s free practices completed the top-5 him too with Koiranen GP.

THE REPORT. At the green light Hubert has no difficulties in defending his lead with the two Koiranen GP drivers Aitken and Hughes chasing behind. A minor mistakes in Acque Minerali costs valuable positions to Vasily Romanov who was trying to overtake Barnicoat. The Tech1 Racing duo Gachet and Hugo De Sadeleer are fourth and fifth. At lap 5 spotlights once more on Romanov who has to pit to replace his front nose. Two laps afterwards and Matevos Isaakyan tries to make his move on De Sadeleer. A contact is the outcome and the Russian is forced to slow down with a damaged flap forcing him to P8 under the chequered flag just ahead of De Sadeleer. Yet another turning point in the last stages when Hughes spuns and gives way to Gachet who thus grabs third place, as he managed in 2014, behind Hubert and Aitken.

«Today all went well with pole position - declared Anthoine Hubert – My pace during the race was perfect, I’ve experienced minor problems only due to the yellow flags. This is my first win in Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS, I’m very happy».

Tomorrow the first green light is set for 9for the second qualifying session. Race 2 is scheduled at 2 pm and will still be Live Streamed on renaultsportitalia.it with live info coverage also on sul Twitter @flp_renault.
